Ewyas Harold
Ewyas Harold: Historically, the land of Ewias was to the west of Offa's Dyke. Ewyas Harold Castle was refortified in 1067 as part of a line of castles defending the border. Harold, son of Ralph, first Earl of Hereford, was granted the castle by William II and became his main domicile. When the fortress was no longer needed, the stones were removed and incorporated into local houses and the village economy relied on farming and associated small businesses. It is now a thriving community with two pubs, a school and shops. Climb up to the gorse clad common to lovely views of the village and surrounding hills.
