Arts, Crafts and Music
Herefordshire's stunning natural scenery and its unhurried pace have inspired artists, crafts people and musicians to settle and create in this county. Visitors have a wealth of choice.
The Courtyard, Herefordshire's Centre for the Arts, in Hereford plays host to artists from home and abroad including the nationally famous Hereford Photography Festival. In November, the Courtyard houses the Hereford Contemporary Crafts Fair showcasing contemporary crafts from Herefordshire and the West Midlands . There are over fifty stands with craftspeople selling work from a huge variety of craft mediums and styles with the emphasis on excellence. Work ranges from non-traditional crafts to the more traditional craft methods using contemporary design.
Also in the city is the Hereford Museum and Art Gallery, which is a good place to start to come to grips with the cultural richness of this county. Search the database for more detailed information about galleries, craft shops and displays organised by local crafts people. Tempted to stay longer? Why not combine a weekend with the chance to learn a craft of your own? Inquire from a Tourist Information Centre either by phone or in person and ask for the Creative Breaks brochure that combines the opportunity to learn painting, sculpture, glass, furniture, basketwork, woodland skills, paper making, weaving and ironwork from local experts while enjoying Herefordshire's unique brand of hospitality.
